Days 1-5. Baku to Tbilisi
Spared the destruction of the Mongol hordes, Baku';s old walled city has survived the ravages of the centuries. We explore the narrow streets of the mediaeval old town and visit the unique Maiden Tower and Shirvanshahs Palace, while beyond the city we discover the Zoroastrian fire temple at Surakhani and ancient rock carvings and mud ';volcanoes'; at Qobustan. We travel inland to the town of Sheki and stay in a former Silk Road caravanserai, visiting the Khan';s Palace and old fortress and church in the nearby village of Kish. Before reaching Tbilisi we explore Gremi Fortress, Alaverdi Cathedral and the underground monastery and cave complex of David Gareja. Time also to enjoy a traditional meal and experience the legendary Georgian hospitality.

Days 6-10. Armenian Adventure
Georgia';s former capital, Mtskheta, remains the spiritual centre of the country, we visit the outstanding UNESCO World Heritage monuments of Jvari Church and Sveti-Tskhoveli Cathedral and explore the historic sites of old Tbilisi before continuing to Armenia. We cross the border visiting Goshavank Monastery and Hagartsin Monastery on the way to Dillijan. Further south we explore the region around Lake Sevan before crossing the Selim Pass to Selim Caravanserai and continuing to Noravank - enjoying
excellent views of Mt Ararat.

Days 11-13. Yerevan
We have two days to explore the city with its excellent museums and the nearby historic sites including Echmiadzin, the former capital of Armenia, the pagan temple of Garni and Geghard Monastery. We return to Georgia visiting Ambered Fortress, Vanadzor and Hachpat Monastery with its excellent examples of khachkars - traditional carved stone crosses.

Days 14-17 Georgian Adventure
Following the Georgian Military Highway deep into the Caucasus Mountains to Gudauri, we visit the fortress and church at Ananauri and walk to Gergeti Trinity Church (2234m), before continuing to Gori, Stalin';s birthplace, and the cave town of Uplistikhe. From the mountain resort of Bakuriani we discover the remarkable cave town of Vardzia, of its original 3000 caves over 500 remain including churches, extensive living quarters and wine cellars.

Days 15-21. Western Georgia to the Black Sea
The historic town of Kutaisi offers some excellent UNESCO World Heritage sites; Bagrati Cathedral and Motsameta and Gelati Monasteries. Beyond Kutaisi lie the remains of ancient Vani - reputed to perhaps be the city of King Aeetes, possessor of the Golden Fleece. Arriving in Batumi we complete our journey coast to coast across the Caucasus and relax with a stroll along the promenade and dinner in one of its many cafes before joining our overnight train to Tbilisi. Our final day is spent enjoying the historic sites of this ancient city.

which consists of 19 monasteries. Founded in the 6th Century we visit the Lavra Monastery and then walk (1 hour) to
Udabno Monastery.
Tblisi: City tour including Metekhi Church, Narikala Fortress, Sulfur Baths, Synagogue, Sioni Cathedral, Anchiskhati Churhch, Georgian State Museum, Art Museum.
Mtskheta the ancient capital and religious centre of Georgia: We explore the UNESCO world heritage sites of Jvari Church and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral.
Northern Georgia: We travel up the Georgian Military Highway deep into the Caucasus Mountains visiting the Ananuri church and fortress complex, take a 2 hour walk through spectacular scenery to Gergeti Trinity Church (2234m).
Western Georgia: Gori Stalins birthplace and home to Stalins Museum, the cave town of Uplistsikhe where silk caravans once passed on their way to the black sea coast. The incredible Vardzia underground city with 19 storeys and over 500 caves, churches, and 12th century frescoes, the spa town of Borjomi and Khertvisi Fortress.
The historic town of Kutaisi with its UNESCO protected sites of BagratiCatherdral and Gelati Cathedral and the 11th century Church of the Martyrs.
