Casablanca & Marrakesch
[die Tourbeschreibung ist momentan nur auf Englisch verfügbar]
Day 1 to 2
Casablanca
We begin in faded Casablanca, Morocco's largest city and the site of the popular 1942 romantic film. Casablanca is a huge bustling metropolis that handles 60% of Morocco's total sea traffic. Here you can admire the French-influenced architecture, visit the Hassan II Mosque on the edge of the sea, wander by the impressive street stalls and browse the fruit and vegetable markets for a local delicacy.
Day 2 to 3
Rabat
Today we travel by train to Morocco's capital, Rabat. The city is largely modern, but wandering the streets you will see several sights that hint of Rabat's rich past. There is a pleasant atmosphere here, and the city isn't as chaotic as larger Moroccan cities like Casablanca and Marrakech.
You have free time to enjoy the captivating sights of the Kasbah des Oudaias, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the Tour Hassan. You can also go shopping in the Medina, visit the Royal Palace and see the Archaeology Museum.
Day 3 to 4
Fes
In the morning we make our way to Fes, a medieval city full of life, colour and atmosphere! Fes is the third largest city in Morocco and the oldest of the Imperial cities. It was once the religious and cultural centre of Morocco with many great dynasties having flourished here. The medina of old Fes is one of the largest living medieval cities in the world. Here you'll see generations of workers selling everything from brass to shoes and spices. Elsewhere, there are narrow winding streets and plenty of covered bazaars selling crafts, fruit and vegetables and just about anything else you can think of!
If that's not enough of an assault on your senses, Fes boasts many dye pits and tanneries which you can admire after a hard day's bargaining. The new area provides a contrast to old Fes with plenty of café-lined avenues where you can relax with a coffee and watch the modern Moroccan way of life go by.
Day 5 to 6
Meknes
Today we travel to Meknes via the famous Roman ruins of Volubilis.
Volubilis is the best preserved Roman ruin site in Morocco and dates from 2nd Century AD. With a diverse population of Berbers, Greeks, Jews and Syrians, Volubilis' inhabitants continued to speak Latin and practice Christianity up to the coming of Islam. Volubilis was inhabited until the 18th century and boasts several impressive monuments such as the triumphal arch, capital, baths and the basilica. There are also many stunning mosaics to admire.
After a stop here we continue on to Meknes, sometimes referred to as the Versailles' of Morocco. This elegant nickname derives from that fact that it was once the heart of the Moroccan sultanate and as such is still home to some impressive architecture and buildings.
Popular attractions in Meknes that you can check out include the Old City, the medina, Moulay Ismail Palace and Medresa Bou Inania (The Great Mosque). You can also visit souqs selling spices and nuts as well as musical instruments!
Day 6 to 8
Marrakech
We travel by train to Marrakech by train on day 6. Marrakech is known as the country's pearl of the south'. We spend several hours exploring the old areas of the city, with the backdrop of the Atlas Mountains. In the evening, you have free time to visit Jemaa el Fna - a huge open air square where you have the chance to view fire eaters, snake charmers, and enjoy dinner al fresco'.
The next day is free for you to absorb all the flavours, smells, sights, and tastes of this wonderful city. You could explore the maze of bazaars and spice markets, and indulge in a traditional mint tea or thick Moroccan coffee.
