X - Yangtse Abenteuer

Day 1, SHANGHAI: Arrive in Shanghai and check in to hotel.

Day 2, SHANGHAI: A full day with the option to take a short bus trip to visit one of the wonderful old ‘water towns’, such as Zhouzhuang, with its beautiful buildings, bridges and canals.

Day 3, YICHANG (MAOPING): A morning flight to Yichang, gateway to the Three Gorges. In the afternoon we take a short hike through Xiling Gorge.

Day 4, THREE GORGES HIKE (BADONG): A local boat takes us to and from our optional half day hike through Xiling Gorge.

Day 5, THREE GORGES HIKE (HOME STAY): Hike along Wu Gorge and stay with a local family on the edge of the gorge opposite the beautiful ‘Goddess Peak’.

Day 6, THREE GORGES HIKE (WUSHAN): A morning hike through this breathtaking area. After lunch we return by boat to Wushan.

Day 7, CHONGQING: Travel to the city of Chongqing at the upper end of the reservoir formed by the Yangtse dam project.

Day 8, CHENGDU: Morning bus to Chengdu. Free afternoon to explore Chengdu’s temples, parks or teahouses.

Day 9, CHENGDU - XICHANG: Morning visit to the panda sanctuary and free afternoon to explore some of Chengdu’s other sights. Overnight train to Xichang.

Day 10, XICHANG: Morning arrival in Xichang and transfer to hotel. A full day excursion to visit some of the nearby minority villages and markets.

Day 11, LUGU LAKE: A full day bus trip to the spectacularly situated Lugu Lake, where we stay in a small Musuo minority village on the northern lakeshore.

Day 12, LUGU LAKE: Free time to explore the fascinating lake area and Musuo villages. We cross Lugu Lake in local ‘Pig Trough’ boats, stopping to visit an island temple on the way and spend the evening in a village on the southern shore of the lake.

Day 13, LIJIANG: We travel by private transport to the ancient Naxi minority town of Lijiang.

Day 14, LIJIANG: A full day to explore the old town of Lijiang, with the option of a local musical performance in the evening.

Day 15, TIGER LEAPING GORGE: We take a bus trip to Qiaotou for the start of our hike through this spectacular gorge. Today we hike for approximately 2 hours and stay with a local Naxi minority family inside the gorge.

Day 16, TIGER LEAPING GORGE: A full day hiking through stunning scenery with some absolutely wonderful views. We spend thie night inside the gorge.

Day 17, DALI: A morning bus trip to the ancient city of Dali, a pretty town set against a picturesque backdrop of mountains. Free afternoon.

Day 18, DALI: A full day to explore the region and perhaps enjoy a bike ride or horse trek.

Day 19, DALI - KUNMING: Another day to explore Dali, Erhai Lake or some of the historic villages nearby. In the evening we catch the overnight train to Kunming.

Day 20, KUNMING: Morning arrival in Kunming. A free day to relax or visit the sights of the city.

Day 21, KUNMING: Tour ends.
