Days 1-2:
From Ecuadors colonial capital of Quito, a flight (to be paid locally) is taken to Baltra and transfer to the cruise yacht and sail to Bartolome to explore. Sail to Fernandina / Isabela.
Days 3-4:
North Seymour / Plazas. Santa Cruz: Charles Darwin Station / Highlands
Days 5-6:
Floreana Espanola / San Cristobal
Days 7-8:
Genovesa & Mosqera Islet / Baltra - Return flight back to Quito.
Description of the different Galapagos islands:
Isabela (Albermale):
The largest island, is characterised by its lunar landscape, dominated by six large and intermittently active volcanoes, and studded by minor volcanic cones, protruding through lava fields. The sights include flamingo colonies at Laguan Viallmil, marine iguanas, flightless cormorants, penguin colonies at Elizabeth Bay, white cheeked pintails at Punta Morneo, the largest colony of tortoises, located in the caldera of Volcan Alcedo, Galapagos penguins and flightless cormorants at Tagus Cove and rays and turtles at Urbina Bay.
Santa Cruz:
Is the second largest but most populated island. It is home to Charles Darwin Research Station at Academy Bay. Land iguanas at Conway Bay, sink holes at Los Gemelos, the Galapagos rail and paint-billed crake in the highlands, Opuntia forests and mangroves, white coral beaches and lava tubes, not to mention sharks, rays and mating turtles at Culeta Tortuga Negra belong to the many highlights.
Bartolome:
Is famous for is spectacular volcanic formations: lava tubes, spatter and cinder cones, and the impressive panorama afforded from the top of the volcano, which takes in Pinnacle Rock.
South Plaza:
To the east of Santa Cruz, you will see iguanas in Opuntia forests and a beautiful cliff walk to sight swallow-tailed gulls, red billed tropic birds, frigate birds, Audubons shearwaters, pelicans and more. Good for snorkelling.
Seymour:
Just off the main airport (Baltra), is where you can observe the courtship, mating, nesting and chick rearing by frigate birds and blue-footed boobies, Swallow-tailed gulls nest there.
Santa Fe:
Features tall Opuntia stands, land iguanas in the highlands, a sea lion colony, excellent snorkelling, marine iguanas and an abundance of birds. On the edge of the archipelago Tower (Genovesa) is excellent for sea birds and snorkelling with hammerhead sharks.
Fernandiina:
This is an active volcano rising from the deep and home to numerous colonies of sea lions, and the largest number of land iguanas on the Galapagos. The greatest concentration of endemic marine iguanas is found at Punta Espinosa.
James (Santiago):
A volcanic landscape punctuated by numerous cones, Puerto Egas offers the unique chance of swimming and snorkelling with fur seals and marine iguanas and observing great blue herons, lava herons, oyster catchers and yellow crowned night herons, red sally lightfoot crabs. Intriguing volcanic formations such as pahoehoe lava, lava bubbles and tree truck moulds can be seen at Sullivan Bay. From the southern tip of James, Sombrero Chino offers good snorkelling and swimming against a fascinating volcanic landscape.
Jervis (Rabida):
Watch hundred sea lions bask on the dark red beaches, or brown pelican rookeries, Galapagos doves, mockingbirds, Galapagos hawks and flamingos.
San Cristobal:
Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is the capital and is situated here in San Cristobal - the second most populated island. There are many places of interest here, such as the Frigatebird Hill, the beach of La Loberia, sea lions and blue-footed boobies at Isla Lobos, white-cheeked pintails at Laguna El Junco, Cerro Tijeras, Puerto Grande, and the volcanic ash formation of Kicker Rock.
Floreana:
Punta Cormorant offers olivine-tinted beach, Devils Crown, a submerged offshore crater, provides outstanding snorkelling and diving around coral formations amongst brightly coloured tropical fish, sea lions and even sharks.
Espanola (Hood):
This is one for the birdlovers - the whole spectrum of Galapagos birdlife is found on Espanola, including twelve thousand nesting albatross pairs. In Punta Suarez, there is a mighty spume-ejecting blowhole, just beyond the spectacular waved albatross colony. Go snorkelling at Gardner Bay with beautiful white sand beach.
