After exploring, rest weary feet and enjoy a drink in one of the many

Take the ferry to Chiloé Island. This quaint fishing village is known for its wooden houses on stilts, artistic wooden shingles, and historical churches (remnants of the Jesuit influence of the Spanish conquistadors), most of which has been declared as Patrimony to Humanity sites. Sample fresh fish and produce for lunch, then motor to a penguin colony to see upwards of 5,000 Humboldt and Magellanic penguins.

In the morning, fly south to Punta Arenas and opt to visit the Otway penguin colony.

At the very end of the Chilean mainland, looking across the Straits of
Magellan to Porvenir and Tierra del Fuego, Punta Arenas is a city of
about 100,000 people.

One of the most interesting optional activities is only a short drive away from Punta Arenas. The Otway Sound penguin colony is the result of a successful protection program that has brought back the penguins' once endangered population to healthy numbers. These charming birds are here from October to April, with chicks hatching in early December. En route there and back to town look out for rheas, flamingos, and a variety of other birds. Foxes and skunks occasionally make an appearance as well.

Trek. Start the 62km (38.5 mi) route by trekking to the base of Las
Torres to see the dramatic three towers and turquoise lagoon below.

Hike through dense forest and on mountain paths before making the ascent to the base of Las Torres. Trek about 4-5 hours there and another 4-5 hours back - it’s oh-so-worth it! Then, take a 30-min transfer to Refugio Laguna Amarga with the duffels.

Wake up surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. After breakfast, continue
hiking along the W route, crossing Paine River and passing through

mountains reflecting in the lake before reaching the refuge.

Take in some amazing scenery on this stretch - light blue lakes contrast beautifully against the deep green forest. Test your endurance on a couple of uphill sections, but mainly enjoy a straightforward hiking day.

Today hike to the French Valley lookout to see the mountain range spread
across the National Park. Take in the dramatic, contrasting greens and

Enjoy breakfast in Cuernos. Hike first to the Italian camp, then set out to the French Valley Mirador. Here, soak in views that are absolutely amazing! Get a great view of the fresh glacier, where it’s possible to see avalanches.

The final day of the W Trek leads to Grey Lake and the lookout point for

picturesque ferry ride across the lake enjoying the sense of

Cross back over the Andes and travel by bus back into Argentina to El Calafate. Free afternoon to explore.

Leave Chile and return to Argentina, travelling across the dusty, windy
altiplano. The long road takes us through the arid southern pampas and
across the border to the turquoise waters of Argentino Lake and the town
of El Calafate. A spectacular drive west towards the mountains leads us
to the dynamic Moreno glacier. Look for condors, rheas, eagles or
flamingos en route, but the real star of the day is the stunning Moreno
Glacier, at the southern terminus of Glacier National Park.

Fly to Ushuaia. Opt to take a boat trip on the Beagle Channel or hike in Tierra del Fuego National Park.

Take a short flight to the southern-most city in the world: Ushuaia, which is situated on the island of Tierra del Fuego.

Enjoy an optional cruise along the Beagle Channel (named after Darwin's
expedition vessel) providing panoramic views of the scenery and the
