Day 1: Arrival day in New York City
Welcome to the 'Big Apple', the city that never sleeps on the bustling island of Manhattan in New York State. This city needs no introduction and there's plenty to keep you entertained ahead of your welcome meeting at 18:00 hrs in your hotel. Wander around New York on food for the perfect introduction to the city, explore Manhattan and Brooklyn by boat or simply find yourself a central Manhattan viewpoint for a spot of people watching.
Accommodation: Hotel included I Meals: Paid locally

Day 2-3: Philadelphia and Washington DC

Departing New York City, your first stop is Philadelphia, or 'Philly' as the locals call it. Visit the Liberty Bell, climb the famous `Rocky' steps and enjoy some free time to peruse the colourful Reading Terminal Market, sampling the local flavour. Why not cast your eyes on Independence Hall where brave men gathered at the Pennsylvania State House and defied the King of England, an event which helped shape the US Constitution. Next up is Washington DC where you may opt for an illuminated view of the famous icons such as the White House, Jefferson Monument and Capitol Hill - a great introduction to the city. When it comes to DC's museums, Land of the Free and the sensational Smithsonian are well worth visiting. For sports fans, you can opt for a baseball game (in season) to ensure day two is full to bursting.
Accommodation: Hotel included | Meals: Paid locally

Day 4-5: Asheville / Great Smoky Mountains National Park
You'll have no problem understanding why this is the most visited national park in America, it's simply stunning. Known to the Cherokee people as the 'place of blue smoke', the valleys offer great walking trails to explore. As you hike the amazing trails, keep your eyes peeled for the American Black Bear and the native White-Tailed Deer.
Accommodation: Camping included I Meals: Breakfast (x1), lunch (x2), dinner (x2) included

Day 6: Nashville
From here you make your way to Nashville - the undisputed capital of country music. Home to the famous Wildhorse Saloon and Country Music Hall of Fame, offering the perfect opportunity to try some line dancing. Broadway is lined with honky-tonks and live music venues playing not only country, but all music genres - a definitive introduction to the delicious Deep South.

As well as its indelible country music links, Nashville is also the capital of Tennessee and the state's second largest city after Memphis. Situated on the banks of the Cumberland River it was established as a major river port by settlers in 1779. Your time in Nashville is free for you to enjoy so you can indulge in your choice of the many music and entertainment options available. There are entrance fees for the various venues and shows you may wish to attend. Our pick would be the Grand Ole Opry, the world's longest running radio show and a recommended highlight (worth booking ahead of arrival due to limited tickets). You can enjoy performances at the famous Grand Ole Opry House located nine miles (14km) east of the city - you'll need to book before arriving to ensure you don't miss out though!
Accommodation: Hotel included I Meals: Breakfast included

Day 7-8: Memphis
Located near the Mississippi River, Memphis has a long and colourful past with music running through the very heart of this city. Legendary forefathers such as Louis Armstrong, Muddy Waters and the late B.B. King helped to put Beale Street on the musical map. A highlight of your stay in Memphis is an included excursion to Graceland, the home of influential Elvis Presley.

You also have the chance to visit Sun Studio which opened in 1950 - a place where many great names have passed through. Outside of music, you may like to pay a visit to the National Civil Rights Museum located in the former Lorraine Hotel, where Martin Luther King was assassinated, or visit the Gibson guitar factory to completely immerse yourself in the fascinating musical heritage of this city.
Accommodation: Camping included I Meals: Breakfast (x1), lunch (x2), dinner (x1) included

Day 9: Hot Springs
No prizes for guessing how Arkansas' Spa City got its name. It's now time to take a dip in the 'American Spa'. These lovely thermal pools have been attracting people for years and you'll soon see why as you dunk your first toe in the warming waters.
Accommodation: Camping included I Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included

Day 10: Oklahoma City
Oklahoma, with more driveable miles of the old Route 66 highway than any other state, is a mecca for fans of the 'Mother Road'. Oklahoma City is the capital and the largest city in the state. You spend a night here to discover some of the city's many cultural attractions. Upon arrival you'll enjoy a driving tour to become better acquainted with the city. Why not visit the Route 66 Vintage Iron Motorcycle Museum or the historical Coleman Theatre? Built in the late 1920's, the theatre defines an era of vaudeville and silent films. Oklahoma is also the gateway to cowboy country so what could be a better introduction to the `Wild West' than an optional visit to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum? Originally established in 1955 as the Cowboy Hall of Fame and Museum, it has broadened its scope to encompass both Western and Native American artwork and artefacts, as well as historic photographs.
Accommodation: Hotel included I Meals: Breakfast and lunch included

Day 11: Amarillo
Located on the famous Route 66, Amarillo in the state of Texas is your destination for today and en route you visit the world-famous Cadillac Ranch. As a celebration of America's love for this classic car, make sure you pay a visit to the ten Cadillac's buried nose deep in the sand. Travel on to Amarillo where there are a number of attractions waiting for you, from outdoor activities to Western heritage and a flourishing arts scene. In the evening you make your way to the Big Texan Steak Ranch for a steak meal (optional). If you can eat a 72 oz. steak in less than one hour, you get it for free!
Accommodation: Camping included I Meals: Lunch and dinner included

Day 12: Santa Fe
Continue your journey before arriving in New Mexico and the city of Santa Fe. Although it's the state capital it's only the state's fourth largest city, known for its adobe architecture and new world spiritualism. The earliest settlements in the area were Pueblo Native villages that date back 1,000 years, but the Spanish took over in 1598 and laid down the city's foundations. It wasn't till 1912 that the state of New Mexico became part of the United States. The historic downtown area called the Plaza still retains reminders of the Hispanic era whilst the Palace of the Governors and the San Miguel Mission both date back to 1610 and are said to be the oldest European-era buildings in the USA. For people who want a spot of culture walk down Canyon Road, visit the art galleries and peruse the Navajo treasures that line the streets. If it's excitement you're after then the eclectic mix of bars and restaurants will keep you entertained all evening. You may wish to visit Tomasita's for arguably the best hatch green chile before overnighting in the historic El Rey Inn.
Accommodation: Historic hotel included | Meals: Breakfast and lunch included

Day 13: Mesa Verde National Park / Durango

Crossing the border into Colorado, you enter the archaeological wonderland of Mesa Verde, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was once home to Native American Ancestral Puebloans. Boasting many spectacular viewpoints, this spectacular national park protects thousands of exception sites, a highlight being hundreds of stone cut cliff dwellings.
Accommodation: Camping included I Meals: Lunch and dinner included

Day 14: Durango
A short distance from Mesa Verde, Durango is next on the itinerary. Situated at the base of San Juan National Forest, this quaint town offers an array of activities the year-round. Accommodation: Camping included I Meals: Breakfast and dinner included

Day 15: Monument Valley
Today you travel to one of the most photographed locations in the USA - Monument Valley in the heart of the Navajo Nation. This is a sacred land to those who call it home and the red sandstone monoliths and spectacular sunsets of the area have provided the backdrop for countless Western movies. Explore the incredible array of rock formations on an included guided backroads tour and learn the magic and myth of the rich Native American culture.
Accommodation: Camping included I Meals: Breakfast and lunch included

Day 16-17: Grand Canyon National Park

The Grand Canyon - an iconic symbol of the desert Southwest and a spectacle not to be missed. This incredible natural wonder is difficult to comprehend, even as you stand at the rim or hike down into the canyon. Carved over several millennia, this massive wonder of nature is 277 miles (445km) long, 18 miles (29km) wide and over one mile (1.6km) deep. The mighty Colorado River snakes through the canyon floor, which runs for 1,450 miles (2,330km) through seven US and two Mexican states.

In your free time, we highly recommend a scenic flight over the canyon, which offers perspectives that you cannot see exploring by foot. Also recommended is the film show at the IMAX Theater which'll give you an excellent overview of the area and how it developed. There are many walks to enjoy, ranging from easy to moderate. We recommend following the Bright Angel Trail down to Plateau Point, a challenging hike with incredible views of the Colorado River.
Accommodation: Camping included I Meals: Breakfast (x2), lunch (x2), dinner (x1) included

Day 18: Route 66 and Las Vegas
Leave nature behind and head to Las Vegas, Nevada, embracing all of its neon splendour. En route you'll visit the quirky town of Seligman, filled to the brim with pure Americana, as well as stopping for a view of the mighty Hoover Dam. Las Vegas is the fastest growing city in the USA and the entertainment capital of North America - home to pirates and pyramids, weddings and waterfalls. If you fancy trying your hand at a spot of gambling, you've definitely come to the right place! Nowhere else in the world will you find as many resort hotels, clubs and all-you-can-eat buffets as in Vegas. You'll either love it or hate it but you have to experience it for yourself at least once.
Accommodation: Hotel included | Meals: Breakfast included

Day 19: Death Valley National Park

Today you make your way to one of the hottest, driest and lowest places in North America, Death Valley. Located in Eastern California's Mojave Desert, this arid area has only 5cm of rainfall each year and offers some incredible vistas and natural formations. Despite its morbid name, a great diversity of life survives in Death Valley but with temperatures regularly topping 40 degrees plus, you'll be glad your hotel has air conditioning!
Accommodation: Hotel included | Meals: Lunch included

Day 20-21: Yosemite National Park
After leaving Death Valley you head east through California's historic gold country and then high into the Sierra Nevada Mountains to magnificent Yosemite National Park. You begin with an easy trail walk to the Giant Sequoia Trees before your two night stay.

Yosemite National Park sits nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountain range of Northern California. Here, emerald forest meet colossal granite walls measuring several thousand feet in height. Rock climbers come from all over the world to scale the rocks whilst hikers get to walk to the summit of some of the largest waterfalls in the world. Hiking in Yosemite is a special experience and anyone who visits the park simply must explore one of the many trails. The famous sites situated along these trails include Yosemite Falls, Nevada Falls, Vernal Falls and Mirror Lake. The views are breathtaking from every vantage point - the granite formations of Half Dome, El Capitan and Cathedral Rocks are sure to be forever etched on your mind.
Accommodation: Camping included I Meals: Breakfast (x1), lunch (x1), dinner (x2) included

Day 22: Yosemite National Park and San Francisco
Leaving Yosemite's towering Sequoias behind, make your way towards the 'City by the Bay' where your tour comes to a close. That's not before an orientation tour around the city, including the Haight-Ashbury area with its hippy vibes and the chance to walk across the famous Golden Gate Bridge. Completed in 1937, this iconic suspension bridge stretches for 1.7 miles (2.7 km) and is one of the most photographed bridges in the world. Another `must do' in San Francisco is the offshore prison of Alcatraz where you can learn all about the infamous inmates and their failed escape attempts. To do this you'll need to book directly with Alcatraz Cruises in advance for the day after your tour finishes.
Meals: Breakfast and lunch included

This tour ends at approximately 17:00 hrs. We can book you post-tour accommodation at our gateway hotel if required. If you are planning to fly tonight, please do not book a flight that departs before 21:00 hrs.
